The morning

A running order,
not a scramble

You get this schedule in writing two weeks out, with your photographer's arrival time built in. It moves if the day moves — but nobody has to guess when it is their turn.

  1. Set-up

    Chair, light and power

We arrive ahead of the first face and set up by the best window in the room, away from the dress and the flowers.

  2. First hour

    Anyone leaving early

Mothers, readers and anyone travelling separately go first, so they are free while the room is still quiet.

  3. Middle

    The attendants

Worked in pairs against the agreed timings, with hair running alongside where your stylist prefers it.

  4. Last chair

    The bride

Finished last and unhurried, with a final check in daylight and a second check once the dress is on.

  5. Before we go

    Kit handover

Your touch-up kit is packed, labelled and handed to whoever is carrying your bag, with a note on what to use when.

Prep notes

Before the day

The makeup can only sit as well as the skin underneath it. These are the notes we send after a preview — none of them require buying anything new.

  • Eight weeks out

    Stop experimenting

Finish any new actives, peels or treatments now. Skin that is still adjusting on the day photographs textured and refuses to hold base.

  • Two weeks out

    Book brows early

Shaping, tinting and lash lifts want a fortnight to settle. Same for a facial — the calm comes later than people expect.

  • The week before

    Hydrate, don't strip

Swap exfoliation for a plain moisturiser and lip balm morning and night. Dry patches are the single most common wedding-morning problem.

  • Tanning

    Three days, not one

If you are tanning, go a shade lighter than you think and do it three days ahead. We match your base to the tan, so tell us the shade.

  • The night before

    Clean face, clean hair rules

No heavy masks or oils. Follow your hair stylist's washing instructions rather than ours — they differ, and theirs wins.

  • The morning

    Eat, and wear buttons

Something proper for breakfast and a shirt that opens at the front. Pulling a jumper over a finished face is how the day starts badly.

Coverage & travel

Where we come to

Cedar Field travels to getting-ready rooms across the county and the neighbouring valleys as standard, with no separate charge inside that radius. Further out is usually still possible — it becomes a question of start times rather than distance.

Farmhouses, hotel suites, family kitchens and the back rooms of village halls are all familiar ground. We bring our own lighting, so a dim room is not a problem.

Anything needing us in the chair before seven in the morning is booked as an early start, which simply means we stay the night nearby rather than driving in tired.

Previews normally happen at the studio, where the daylight is consistent and the full kit is on hand. If travelling to a preview is genuinely difficult, say so in your enquiry and we will find a way round it.

Questions

Asked most often

Do I actually need a preview session?
For the bride, yes — it is where we work out how your skin behaves under product, how much coverage you are comfortable with, and what your photographer's lighting will do to it. For attendants it is optional and most skip it. Registry and elopement bookings do not require one.
How far ahead should I book?
Saturdays between May and September tend to go twelve to eighteen months out. Weekdays and winter dates are far more relaxed and often available within a few months. If your date is close, ask anyway — cancellations happen more than you would think.
Will it last through a long reception?
It is built to. Base is layered thinly and set in stages rather than powdered heavily at the end, which is what usually causes the late-evening breakdown. You will still want to press your lip colour once after the meal, which is why the touch-up kit exists.
My skin is reactive. What are my options?
Tell us at enquiry, not at the preview. We will plan a fragrance-free, minimal-ingredient routine and patch test the specific products at the preview so there is a clear fortnight before the day. Rosacea, eczema and post-treatment skin are all regular work here.
How many people can you take in one morning?
One artist comfortably covers the bride plus four faces. Above that we bring a second artist so the schedule stays honest — we would rather add a pair of hands than compress everyone's time. Let us know your rough numbers and we will tell you which it needs.
What happens if our numbers or timings change?
Numbers can move either way up to a month before, and the running order is rewritten free of charge whenever the schedule shifts. The only thing we ask is that changes come from one person, so we are not reconciling three versions of the morning.
Can you hold a date while we decide?
We hold a date informally for fourteen days from the enquiry. If someone else asks for the same date inside that window, you get first refusal before it goes. After fourteen days it goes back into the diary.

your day

Send the basics and we will reply with availability, a clear price for your numbers, and two or three preview dates that fit around you.

If you are still deciding between collections, say so — it is easier to advise once we know the shape of the morning.

Nothing is confirmed until you have seen the numbers in writing, and your date is held informally for fourteen days from the moment you send this.

We reply to every enquiry, usually within two working days.
